Overview

The pediatric cardiology Unit provides advanced diagnostic and interventional cardiac care for pediatric patients with congenital and structural heart diseases. The unit serves as a cornerstone for minimally invasive procedures, avoiding the need for open-heart surgery whenever possible. The unit also provides advanced diagnostic and interventional pediatric electrophysiological services for pediatric patients with arrhythmias & conduction disorders.

Scope of the Unit

The Pediatric Cardiology Department provides state-of-the-art services including fetal echocardiography, interventional catheterization, advanced non-invasive imaging, and pediatric cardiac intensive care. The team is dedicated to delivering holistic care that extends from prenatal detection to long-term follow-up.

The pediatric cardiology Unit specializes in the evaluation and management of pediatric patients with congenital and acquired heart diseases, as well as pediatric patients with arrhythmias & conduction disorders. In addition to evaluation of fetal cardiac anomalies.

Using cutting-edge technology, the team performs diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures to restore normal heart function & rhythm.

  1. Pediatric cardiology clinic

Clinical evaluation & follow up of neonates & children with congenital or acquired heart diseases before & after cardiac interventions (surgery & catheter interventions)

  1. Pediatric echocardiography clinic

Conventional transthoracic Echocardiography, advanced cardiac imaging (tissue Doppler & speckle tacking echocardiography, 3D echocardiography)

  1. Pediatric arrhythmia clinic

Diagnosis, management & follow up of pediatric patients with rhythm & conduction disorders.

Screening for children pre-participation in sports.

The clinic provides assessment using: 12 leads ECG, Ambulatory ECG (Holter) monitoring, stress testing, programming of implantable devices (Pacemakers & ICDs).

  1. Fetal echocardiography clinic

Fetal echocardiography and prenatal counseling.

Neonatal cardiac assessment and early intervention planning.

Parental education and family support.

  1. Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization unit

Diagnostic cardiac catheterization:

Diagnostic cardiac catheterization for congenital lesions, hemodynamic studies, Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).

Interventional Cardiology:

·        Balloon angioplasty for stenotic & critically stenotic lesions

·        Balloon valvuloplasty (aortic, pulmonary).

·        Coarctation stenting and great vessel interventions.

·        Pulmonary artery branch stenting

·        Device closure of septal defects (ASD, VSD, PDA).

·       Left Bundle area pacing in children.

·       Leadless pacing in ADCH.

·       Transvenous endocardial ICD implantation (single & dual chamber systems) in children.

·       Devices & leads extraction

·       Providing technical support (intraoperative device testing & programming) for surgically inserted devices

  1. Cardiac Catheterization unit for Adults with congenital heart diseases (ADCH)

·       Diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization in ACHD patients.

·       Management of ACHD with heart failure, arrhythmias, and critical congenital heart disease.

  1. Pediatric cardiac care unit (CCU)

·       Pre & Post-catheterization monitoring and stabilization.

  1. Pediatric cardiology ward

  • Evaluation & management of pediatric patients post cardiac surgery or catheterization as well as patients admitted with medical cardiac conditions.

What we treat

We help children who have problems with their heart arteries, heart valves, or blood vessels in the body & those who have too fast or too slow heart rate. Conditions include:

  • Blocked or narrowed major heart arteries (which can cause effort intolerance, chest pain or syncope)
  • Valve problems (such as valves that are too tight or that leak)
  • Abnormal hole in the heart
  • Aneurysms of the aorta (bulges in large blood vessels)
  • Children with abnormally rapid heart rate
  • Children with abnormally slow heart rate
  • Babies with bluish discoloration of the body (cyanosis)
